Functional Plant Biology
FPB Best Paper Award
Functional Plant Biology, together with the Australian Society for Plant Scientists, is pleased to offer an award for the best paper published by an early-career scientist in the Journal in each calendar year. The winner of the award will be invited to present an oral paper at the ComBio conference in the year of the award and registration will be funded by the ASPS. The award also carries a prize of a one-year print + online subscription to FPB and a certificate presented by the president of the ASPS
To be eligible for the prize the first author must be:
- A member of the ASPS
- A PhD candidate or no more than 10 years post-PhD
Reviewers will be asked to nominate whether a manuscript is suitable for consideration for the prize. Papers nominated for the award will be judged by the Editorial Advisory Committee of the Journal, along with the Council of the ASPS. The winner of the award will be announced in a mid-year issue of the Journal.
The application form is supplied on submitting your manuscript for publication in Functional Plant Biology.

Functional Plant Biology — A new era
In January 2002, Australian Journal of Plant Physiology was relaunched as Functional Plant Biology. This natural progression reflects the changing nature of experimental plant science research, as well as the journal’s international authorship, readership and referees.
Scope
FPB is an international journal for contributions in all areas of plant physiology including biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, plant–environment interactions, and plant–microbe interactions. Emphasis is given to increasing the understanding of plant function, rather than to simple description of processes in isolation from the plant system.
Editorial policy
FPB is committed to rigorous but sympathetic reviewing, prompt decision-making and rapid publication. Currently, the average time from submission to acceptance decision is 5 weeks. Turnaround times are constantly improving, thanks largely to implementation of a new electronic delivery system that encompasses manuscript submission, distribution to reviewers, referee reporting, and distribution of reports to authors.
